Bangladesh will be keen to wrap up the series when they square off against Sri Lanka in the 2nd ODI of the three-match series in Dhaka. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz set up the victory in the opening game. The veteran batsman struck an 87-ball 84, while Mehidy picked up a four-wicket haul. All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga scored a fighting 74, and his dismissal ended Sri Lanka’s hopes of a win.
Team news
Mustafizur Rahman suffered cramps during the first ODI but is hopeful of playing on Tuesday. If he misses out, 19-year-old Shoriful Islam could get his first ODI cap. Meanwhile, selectors are unlikely to drop Liton Das after yet another batting failure from the wicket-keeper batsman. He had struck two ODI hundreds last year, but the 26-year-old is yet to hit a fifty in the 50-over format in 2021. Mohammad Mithun, who was dismissed for a first-ball duck, too, is expected to retain his place in the starting eleven.
A poor batting display led to Sri Lanka’s defeat in the series opener. The likes of Danushka Gunathilaka, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Ashen Bandara would have been disappointed with their shot selection. Lankans are likely to make one change as Niroshan Dickwella, who scored 88* in the intra-squad practice game, could find a place in the squad at the expense of either Pathum Nissanka or Bandara.
