Eyeing a maiden title, Saint Lucia Kings (SLK) and St Kitts & Nevis Patriots (SKN) will face each other in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021 final tonight. A maiden T20 half-century from Mark Deyal – 78 off 44 balls – and David Wiese’s 5/39 helped Saint Lucia Kings beat Trinbago Knight Riders by 21 runs in a high-scoring opening semi-final. Meanwhile, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots booked their place in the final after thrashing Guyana Amazon Warriors by seven wickets. Evin Lewis struck a 39-ball 77*.
Saint Lucia Kings have won both their matches against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots this season. However, Faf du Plessis is still recovering from the groin injury and could miss the final. All-rounders Roston Chase and David Wiese are the two key players in Saint Lucia Kings’ playing 11. The duo, who combined picked up 19 wickets in CPL 2021, made a valuable contribution with the bat in the semi-final.
St Kitts & Nevis Patriots will be relying on their experienced players to guide them to their first CPL crown. Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, and Lewis combined to chase down 179 in the second semi-final. Lewis has scored a hundred and hit two fifties in his last five appearances. Much will also depend on the bowling trio of Dominic Drakes, Fawad Ahmed, and Jon-Russ Jaggesar. They have picked up 32 wickets between them in CPL 2021.
