Champions League hopefuls Leicester City (LEI) squares off against seventh-placed Tottenham Hotspur (TOT) in the final matchday of the 2020-21 English Premier League (EPL) season. A defeat at the hands of Chelsea meant Leicester City, who sealed a Europa League place, dropped to fifth in the points table. To grab a UEFA Champions League berth, the Foxes should pip Tottenham Hotspur and hope either Chelsea or Liverpool fail to pick up maximum points
Two defeats in their last three games have left Tottenham Hotspur needing a miracle to clinch a Europa League spot. They have to win against Leicester City and need Southampton to beat West Ham United. However, a top-seven finish for Tottenham Hotspur will still give them a place in UEFA’s new tournament, UEFA Europa Conference League.
Team news
Kelechi Iheanacho could return to the starting eleven after his exploits against Chelsea in midweek. The Nigerian, who scored a consolation goal after coming off the bench at Stamford Bridge, has now registered 11 league goals since March 2021 and is one short of equalling Jamie Vardy’s tally of 13 goals this season. Meanwhile, Jonny Evans will miss the final league fixture, and Timothy Castagne will continue his role as a makeshift centre-back.
Harry Kane will grab the spotlight as it could be his last game in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt. If so, he would want to bow out on a high and ensure the London outfit clinch European football next season. Gareth Bale could start as he played just 18 minutes against Aston Villa, while Matt Doherty is likely to replace injured Japhet Tanganga.
