The uncapped hard-hitting India batsman Shahrukh Khan, who has made a name for himself with splendid performances with the bat for the Tamil Nadu side in the Indian domestic circuit, was on Saturday bought by Team Punjab once again, albeit this time for a massive price of ₹9.25cr, which is 20 times more than his base price.
The base price of the 26-year-old for the mega auction of the Indian T20 League 2022 edition was ₹40 lakhs, but he went for a massive price hike on Saturday thanks to as many as three teams showing interest in him. After the bidding process started for the player, it was Team Chennai who showed interest in him first but soon the two-time title winners Kolkata joined in.
Shahrukh eventually was snapped by his former Indian T20 League side Team Punjab, who spent a handsome amount to acquire the services of an aggressive batsman who was recently called-up as a back-up player in the Indian side for the ongoing series against West Indies.
The 26-year-old has made his reputation as a finisher in the T20 format, helping his state side Tamil Nadu win the most high-profile T20 competition in the domestic circuit, Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy for two consecutive years. In the 2021 edition of the tournament, the tall right-handed batsman hit a last-ball six in the final to help TN win by 4 wickets, with the match being watched live by Chennai captain and former India cricketer M Dhonii on the television.
It is believed that there are not too many hard-hitting batsmen in Indian cricket like Shahrukh, and the dearth of finishers in the format makes him a great addition for any side.
