Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer sparked an intense bidding war between teams in the auction for the Indian T20 league 2022, with Team Kolkata winning the bid with a whopping prize of ₹12.25 crores for the talented batsman.
Iyer has put his name in the mega auction ahead of the 2022 edition of the world's biggest T20 cricket league, following a successful stint with the Team Delhi whom he captained as well.
There were plenty of teams such as Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Gujarat and Bangalore who were involved in the bidding war for the middle-order batsman in Bangalore on Saturday afternoon, who scored a match-winning 80 for India against the West Indies on Friday in the third and final ODI at Ahmedabad.
Iyer has been one of the best batsmen in the format and his arrival in the Kolkata camp also solves the issue of captaincy for the two-time title winners, who had released their regular skipper Eoin Morgan after he led them to the title clash against Team Chennai in the final of the last year’s edition.
