London Spirit (LNS) will seek their first win in the Hundred when they take on table-toppers Trent Rockets (TRT) at Lord’s tonight. After a defeat at the hands of Birmingham Phoenix in their tournament opener, bad weather forced them to share points with Oval Invincibles in the second game. Meanwhile, Trent Rockets grabbed a thrilling two-wicket win over Northern Superchargers on Monday.
Team News
Joe Denly could open the batting with Josh Inglis in the absence of Zak Crawley, who, along with Dan Lawrence, has left to join the England squad for the first two Test matches against India. The 35-year-old scored a 14-ball 25 in London Spirit’s tournament opener. Also, wicket-keeper Adam Rossington and all-rounder Luis Reece are likely to be handed their Hundred debut. Reece scored 351 runs at a strike rate of 171 in Vitality Blast 2021.
The London Spirit’ pace trio – Mohammad Amir, Chris Wood, and Blake Cullen – will be looking for an improved performance against Trent Rockets. Though the trio picked up five wickets against Birmingham Phoenix, Amir and Cullen combined leaked 72 runs from 37 balls. Spinners Mohammad Nabi and Roelof van der Merwe are likely to retain their place in the playing eleven.
With Joe Root unavailable, Luke Wright could make his Hundred debut in Trent Rockets’ first away match. The seasoned T20 campaigner leads the batting charts for Sussex in the Vitality Blast 2021 – 306 runs in eight innings. Wright’s presence will add more depth to the Trent Rockets’ batting line-up, which consists of Alex Hales, D’Arcy Short, Dawid Malan, etc.
Trent Rockets head coach Andy Flower will be delighted with his bowling unit’s performances so far. In both matches, they managed to pick up wickets at regular intervals and restrict the opposition to less than 135. The spinners – Rashid Khan and Matthew Carter – clinched five wickets between them against Northern Superchargers. Also, the duo played a pivotal role with the bat during the run-chase.
