Manchester Originals (MNR) will lock horns with Northern Superchargers (NOS) at Old Trafford in match 9 of the Hundred. The home side crushed Birmingham Phoenix by six wickets in their last game, while the Leeds-based franchise is yet to open their account in the tournament. They suffered a narrow defeat in both their games.
Team News
With Jos Buttler left the Manchester Originals squad to join the England team, Colin Munro and Phil Salt are likely to open the batting. Sam Hain could replace Buttler in the playing eleven. Head coach Simon Katich will be hoping to see a solid batting performance from his team. The franchise, who has lost one of their openers before the powerplay in both the games, will be relying on Munro’s experience in the absence of Buttler.
The bowling unit has been consistent in both games. Matt Parkinson picked up a career-best 4/9 against Birmingham Phoenix on Sunday. Meanwhile, pacers Fred Klaassen and Steven Finn have taken four wickets and three wickets, respectively. Uncapped Calvin Harrison, and Tom Hartley, too, have been impressive.
In the absence of Faf du Plessis and Ben Stokes, David Willey will be Northern Superchargers’ stand-in captain. The left-arm pacer hasn’t had a great campaign so far as he is wicketless and conceded more than 60 runs in 29 balls. However, the spinner trio – Adil Rashid, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Callum Parkinson – found form against Trent Rockets.
Northern Superchargers fans will be desperate to see their openers fire on all cylinders. Chris Lynn and Adam Lyth have combined scored only 48 runs in the tournament so far. Dane Vilas could make his Hundred debut tonight. The 36-year-old had an ordinary Vitality Blast 2021 campaign, scoring 179 runs at a strike rate of 121 in 13 innings.
