After losing their respective last fixtures, Southern Brave (SOB) and Birmingham Phoenix (BPH) will be desperate to pick up two points in match 11 of the Hundred. Southern Brave is yet to open their account after defeats against Trent Rockets and Welsh Fire. Moeen Ali-led Birmingham Phoenix, on the other hand, pipped London Spirit in their first game but suffered a hammering at the hands of Manchester Originals in their last fixture.
Team News
Southern Brave head coach Mahela Jayawardene will be concerned with his bowling unit, which has conceded a 100-run partnership in both their matches and only picked up five wickets in the tournament so far. Apart from Chris Jordan, the rest of the bowlers haven’t been able to find their feet yet. George Garton, who claimed the lone wicket against Trent Rockets, could return to the playing eleven after missing the last game due to fatigue. Meanwhile, Jofra Archer is still a few matches away from making his Hundred debut.
James Vince found his rhythm in the 18-run defeat against Welsh Fire. He scored a brisk 40 and stitched together 41 runs, in 15 balls, with Quinton de Kock for the opening wicket. New Zealand batsman Devon Conway will be hoping to register a big score after failing to convert good starts in the first two fixtures. Fellow Kiwi Colin de Grandhomme, too, will be keen to come up with a quality performance.
Birmingham Phoenix became the first team to get bowled out in Hundred as Manchester Original bundled them for just 87. The top-order is yet to live up to the hype as the overseas batsman Finn Allen has failed to survive till powerplay in both matches, while Liam Livingstone managed just 31 runs from two innings. Moeen Ali will be hoping that uncapped batters, too, can find their groove soon.
The bowlers had an excellent outing against London Spirit but couldn’t do much against Manchester Originals. Benny Howell has picked up at least one wicket in both games, while fellow pacers Adam Milne and Tom Helm have grabbed two wickets each in the tournament so far. Veteran spinner Imran Tahir is likely to be in the playing eleven for the third consecutive game.
