Southern Brave (SOB) takes on Oval Invincibles (OVI) in a virtual knockout clash in match 30 of the Hundred. Both teams have nine points from seven games, and the winner of tonight’s match will seal the third and final spot in the playoffs. In case of a tie or abandonment, Oval Invincibles will grab the playoffs spot owing to their superior net run rate.
Team News
Southern Brave has a settled batting unit. Quinton de Kock, who has struck back-to-back half-centuries in the tournament, and Paul Stirling are likely to open the batting. The Irish batter has played a few brisk knocks but will be keen to register a big score. The captain James Vince, too, has been impressive with the bat. He has hit two fifties and a 40-plus score in his last five innings in the tournament.
It has been the pacers – Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, and George Garton – who impressed for Southern Brave so far. But spin duo Danny Briggs and Jake Lintott played a crucial role in the last game. The duo derailed Welsh Fire’s hopes of posting a big score after picking up four wickets between them.
The Oval Invincibles batting department showcased its depth ahead of the crunch clash. Laurie Evans’ stellar 67 against London Spirit would have delighted Tom Moody. With Jason Roy, Colin Ingram, Sam Billings, and Sunil Narine dismissed for a single-digit score, Evans and Will Jacks steered them to a victory. The 26-ball 44 was Jacks’ highest score in the tournament.
Narine, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Tom Curran have been excellent in the last few games for Oval Invincibles. The Proteas spinner’s three wicket-haul against London Spirit restricted them to 146. Meanwhile, Curran is the leading wicket-taker among English pacers with nine wickets, and Narine might have just seven wickets to his name but has kept the runs in check.
