Welsh Fire (WEF) will be eyeing consecutive victories in Hundred when they meet Southern Brave (SOB) at Sophia Gardens. Batters and Qais Ahmad set up a five-run win in Welsh Fire’s opening match. Meanwhile, Southern Brave will be keen to register their first points in the tournament after being humbled by Trent Rockets on Saturday.
Team News
Jonny Bairstow will be playing his final match before joining the England squad for the Test series against India. The Welsh Fire skipper had struck a brilliant half-century against Northern Superchargers. After his unimpressive Hundred debut, Tom Banton will be hoping to find runs. He scored a 25-ball half-century at Sophia Gardens in the Vitality Blast in 2019.
The Welsh Fire bowling line-up will be wary of the threat posed by Devon Conway and James Vince. Pace bowlers Liam Plunkett and David Payne leaked runs against Northern Superchargers, while Jake Ball picked up a wicket and successfully defended 11 runs in the final five balls.
James Vince-led Southern Brave had a poor outing with bat and ball in their tournament opener. Conway and Alex Davies couldn’t convert their starts into bigger knocks. The Kiwis batsman had hit a fifty – 70 off 52 balls – against Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens two weeks ago. If Quinton de Kock makes it to the playing eleven, Conway is likely to bat at No. 3.
Apart from George Garton, none of the Southern Brave bowlers couldn’t pick up a wicket against Trent Rockets. Experienced players Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, and Danny Briggs will be hoping to keep in-form Welsh Fire batters at bay.
