The Hundred: BPH vs LNS Preview

By Parameswaran Sankaranarayanan July 23, 2021

Runs could come thick and fast at Edgbaston Stadium tonight as Moeen Ali-led Birmingham Phoenix (BPH) hosts Eoin Morgan’s London Spirit (LNS) in the second match of men’s competition of the hundred. Both teams have plenty of big-hitters in their squad, and it could be yet another entertaining fixture in the 100-ball tournament.

Team News

Liam Livingstone and Finn Allen are likely to reprise their Lancashire roles. The dynamite opening pair has registered two 50-plus partnerships in Vitality Blast 2021. Uncapped Adam Hose and Daniel Bell-Drummond, too, open the batting for their respective sides in the T20 tournament.

Meanwhile, Dom Sibley is likely to find a place in the playing eleven. He will be available only for BPH’s first two games. Veteran spinner Imran Tahir headlines the bowling department. The fast bowling unit comprises Adam Milne, Dillon Pennington, Pat Brown, Tom Helm, and Benny Howell.

Josh Inglis, who scored a fantastic hundred against Worcestershire a few days ago, is the player to watch out for in the LNS squad. He is likely to open the innings with Zak Crawley. The rest of the batting unit includes Dan Lawrence, Joe Denly, skipper Eoin Morgan, Ravi Bopara, etc.

It would be interesting to see if both Bopara and Mohammad Nabi make it to the final eleven. Roelof van der Merwe and Mason Crane are the other spinners in the squad.  Also, the franchise has plenty of options available in the pace department – Mark Wood, Blake Cullen, Jade Dernbach, and Chris Wood.
